Supreme Council For Family Affairs Celebrates Woman International Day By Discussing The Study Titled 'Obstacles Of Women To Undertake Leadership Posts In The Qatari Society'

 
 



On the occasion of Woman International Day which co-incides annually on March 8th, and in collaboration with University of Qatar, SCFA organized on Monday morning, March 10th, at the conference room in the University of Qatar a seminar on announcing the findings of the study on obstacles impeding Qatari woman to undertake leadership posts in the Qatari society. On this occasion, HE SCFA Secretary-General, Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Khalifa, delivered an address in which he confirmed that the State of Qatar endeavored to build a modern democratic state where citizens enjoyed their rights and participated effectively in making the homeland's future. HE added that empowerment of woman, her stature and her involvement in the social, economic and political areas and in making national decisions are integral parts of this vision, and one of SCFA's objectives. HE stated that to decision makers and policy planners and researchers, SCFA offered this study which is considered the first of its kind on the obstacles of Qatari woman undertaking leadership posts in the Qatari society. This study, prepared by a group of university staff in the area of identifying the real causes that diminish woman's making use of current developments in the developmental context to enhance her involvement in the decision making process, signals the first step of collaboration with University of Qatar in the area of academic research to reach feasible proposals to overcome those obstacles

On her part, Dr Kulthum Al-Ghanim, the study team chair, presented an outline of the study and its findings

It suffices to say that SCFA organized on Sunday, March 9th, a press conference where Ms Noor Al-Maliky, Woman Department Managing Director in SCFA, talked about the programs and activities SCFA organized during the previous period, and which were concerned with upgrading woman and examining her status
