HE Secretary-General of Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Mr. Abdullah bin
Nasser Al-Khalifa opened on Wednesday morning, March 12th, in Al-Sharq Resort,
the events of the First Scientific Conference on Combating Trafficking in
Persons, organized by the National Office of Combating Trafficking in Persons,
in collaboration with University of Qatar and UNESCO, under the title: Combating
Trafficking in Persons Between Theory and Practice which will run for two day.
In his opening address, HE Secretary-General welcomed the guests representing
the different Arab colleges ad universities, confirming that solidifying and
crystallizing the concept of citizenship among the community's different
segments was everybody's responsibility, and all institutions of the civil
society should adopt educational policies to promote the concept of citizenship
within the umbrella of human rights. HE added that, in order to achieve this, it
was necessary to include these human concepts and combating trafficking in
persons in the modern educational curricula, not only on the university
education level, but on the entire education levels as well till we reach the
highest degrees of awareness that should ensure a safe future for our
communities. HE pointed out that awareness of human rights is an issue
prioritized by SCFA under Presidency of HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Missned,
as HH, ever since SCFA’s establishment in 1998, has issued significant
foundational decrees that included founding the Establishment for Protecting
Women and Children, which now has an on-line to receive complaints from children
and women who fall victim of maltreatment, abuse, violence and exploiting, and
the on-line offers the needed help to them. SCFA had an instrumental role in the
issuance of Law No 22 of the year 2005 concerning the prohibition of bringing,
employing and training children for Hajjan camel races. Likewise, SCFA issued
Decree No 8 of the year 2005 concerning establishing the National Office for
Combating Trafficking in Persons. SCFA, moreover, has just completed the
Family's General Strategy, besides a group strategy for each family group, based
on the principles of human rights ratified by international conventions and
confirmed by our gracious Islamic religion
At conclusion of his address, HE Secretary-General stressed the importance of
this Conference that would come out with joint visions to prescribe trafficking
in persons as an academic subject in university syllabi
