Permanent Elections Committee discusses the state of the participation of Qataris in political life: obstacles and means of empowerment

 
 

 

"A Study on the Participation of Qatari's in Political Life: Obstacles and Means of Empowerment", organized by SCFA in collaboration with Dr Kulthum Ali Al-Ghanim of the University of Qatar, revealed a number of facts about the electoral process and the democratic state in the country through the outcomes resulting from the study and which were reviewed by Dr Kulthum Ali Al-Ghanim during the seminar held by PEC on Monday morning November 12th in the Diplomatic Club. Present in the seminar were Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al-Thani, PEC Vice-Chair and a number of Qatar University professors and persons concerned with and interested in the political scene in the State

The study revealed lack of awareness of the legislative role of the forthcoming Parliament, as well as it pointed out that 40% of the samples of the study confirmed that political business doesn't agree with woman nature and that the society was still not fully comprehending the political business.

Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al-Thani confirmed in statements to the local press that PEC was about to finalize preparing a study about a specialized center for empowering the Qatari society in elections, stressing that the PEC will meet the society's aspirations and wishes in this area

The study recommended the necessity of raising awareness of the citizen and activating and enhancing the national sense to push citizens for actual participation in elections and orient awareness programs towards the importance of elections and the Parliament for the different social segments, confirming woman's capabilities and capacities through introducing woman samples that can be emulated as ideals for fellow-women and work toward expanding the area of interaction of citizens with political affairs through holding meetings of both sexes in schools , universities and cultural centers, and conducting training courses to make citizens acquire skills of dialogue and self-expression and facing audiences, in addition to adopting programs for scouting youth leadership and make use of the lessons learnt from previous sessions of the Municipal Council in preparing the community for the next electoral process through communication and raising awareness of candidates of the importance of concentrating on introducing good electoral programs and the importance of establishing a mass base
