Supreme Council For Family Affairs Organizes A Course On Convention On Eliminating All Kinds Of Discrimination Against Woman (cedaw): Observation And Monitoring Mechanisms For Activating It

 
 



At 9:00, Tuesday morning, December 11th 2007, at the Millennium Hotel, began the training course organized by SCFA in collaboration with the Economic and Social Committee for Western Asia (ESCWA), titled Convention on Eliminating Discrimination against Woman (CEDAW): Observation and Monitoring Mechanisms for Activating It. The Course which lasts till Thursday December 13th, aims at deepening the cognitive aspect about CEDAW, and showing participants the recommendations issued by it.the course was supervised by Dr Fareeda Banati, ESCWA Expert in International Law and Woman Issues, Professor of Higher Education, College of Law, Kingdom of Morocco, Researcher, Advisor and Expert in a number of international organizations, UNESCO Academic Chair Committee Member, and author of numerous works including "Dividing Work Between Both Spouses in the Light of Islamic Law and Jurisdiction" and "Selected Divine Texts on Woman's Human Rights in Islam", besides editing and preparing a number of international reports

The Course included six work sessions which were: Introducing CEDAW, analyzing the contents of the key articles and the relationship between CEDAW and Human Rights Convention, reviewing reservations of Arab states about it and their rationale, mechanism of CEDAW work and submitting official reports about its implementation

The Course was attended by about 30 men and women participants from the State's different governmental bodies which include: Development Planning Directorate-General, Ministers Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Supreme Juridical Council, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Prosecution Office, Municipality Council, Public Health Authority, Broadcasting and Television General Corporation, Youth General Authority, Supreme Education Council, Chamber of Industry and Commerce, University of Qatar, Supreme Council for Environment, Social Development Center, in addition to a number of SCFA staff
