A Press Conference On Launching The Elderly Friendly Group

SCFA launched Elderly Friendly Project Day aiming at caring for the elderly and meeting their needs, curbing placing them in institutions and care homes, working at making home the appropriate place for them and then supporting them and strengthening friendly ties with them. Mrs. Tarfa Al-Sadda, SCFA's Elderly Committee Vice-Chair announced in a press conference held at SCFA on the occasion of establishing Elderly Friendly Group on Monday, January 14th 2008 that the Committee is currently preparing voluntary staff that come within the Elderly Friendly Group which SCFA had started forming since 2002 through boys' and girls' primary schools. Mrs. Al-Sadda confirmed that the notion was the result of the social changes and variables witnessed in contemporary life and as a result of the engagements of family members in living which engagements that have shaken the essence of social relations and affected the behavior of the community members that characterized some of them with indifference and apathy towards parents and grandparents. The Elderly Friendly Group Program is classified within the developmental programs that work at follow-up of the elderly’s different aspects of life, as well as it raises awareness of the community about ageing

Mr. Yusuf Al-Muftah, Director-General of the Qatari Association for Elderly Care stated that the Elderly Friendly Group Project was divided into two groups, the first represented by school children and the second by older groups

It suffuses to say that SCFA designed a special logo for the Elderly Friendly Group symbolizing the contact with the elderly and embracing them. The logo's overall form included a figure holding another as indication of companionship, friendship and collaboration
