Marking Qatari Family Day, April 15th: Discussing The Study On House-Maids And Their Impact On Raising Children

Marking Qatari Family Day, SCFA organized on April, 15th, 2008 at the Millennium Hotel a seminar on the findings and recommendations of the study on the trends among house- maids and nannies and their impact on the family raising styles

In a statement to the local press, HE Mr Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Khalifa, SCFA Secretary-General said that the phenomenon of depending on house-maids in raising children was not only on the Qatari level but on the level of the entire Gulf states and the Arab world. Depending on house-maids in raising children became an inseparable part of our Gulf communities in particular, and Arab communities in general. This poses a big problem we all face, and from this stance, conducting an elaborate, diagnozing and analytic study was inevitable, as this study could contribute to a great extent to understanding the size of the problem, and then pass laws that would help in minimizing the spread of this phenomenon in our communities. HE pointed out that it was not possible to say that this study would minimize the problems of house-maids in the Qatari society, but it would surely help us in understaning the problems faced by children and nannies. Generally, addressing this problem was not SCFA's responsibility only, but the responsibility of the entire institutions of the civil society within a joint cooperation framework between SCFA and these institutions, including universities, research and social studies centers in the State.
