Al-Khalifa to "Al-Sharq" Qatari Arabic-language daily newspaper: "HH's being
awarded the prize as the first woman in the world places us at the Supreme
Council for Family Affairs before big challenges and huge responsibilities."
On the occasion of awarding the British Royal Institute Prize, Chatham House,
London, 2007 to HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Missned, Board-of-Directors
Chair of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Social Development, HE Mr.
Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Khalifa, SCFA Secretary-General stated in an interview
with "Al-Sharq" Qatari Arabic-language newspaper that this Prize is an honor for
all Qataris, the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and every Qatari family
Mr. Al-Khalifa pointed out that HH Sheikha Mozah has achieved pioneer actions in
the areas of developing education and promoting knowledge, and she exerted
enormous efforts in the areas of social and familial development, as well as she
has had a prominent role on the level of inter-cultural dialogues and bringing
closer east-west points of view. Mr. Al-Khalifa added saying: "HH worked
according to instructions of HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir,
following his line of action in these successive achievements which we cherish
and of which we feel proud."
HE Secretary-General said: "The social institutions established by HH Sheikha
Mozah give a distinct impression of HH's range of national as well as
international humanitarian sense. We, therefore, acclaim her efforts and role
and we pride ourselves in her winning the British Royal Institute's Prize."
About HH's announcement that she donates the Prize to Qatari volunteers, Mr.
Al-Khalifa said: "This gracious gesture is typical of HH Sheikha Mozah, as well
as it places ahead of us extra duties to be up to the trust she has put in us.
We shall always be devoted to work according to her instructions, and we are
full of determination and strong will to fulfill HH's instructions and HH the
Emir's instructions so that we in all social institutions serve our beloved
country."
In a reply to a question, HE said: "HH's being awarded as the world's first
woman places us at SCFA before big challenges and huge responsibilities to keep
abreast of this glorious event which we pride ourselves in, and to work harder
and with extra zeal. Moreover, it demonstrates that Arab woman is capable of
being on an equal level with men."
It suffices to say that HH Sheikha Mozah's winning this highly coveted Prize was
a result of a ballot where candidates included such VIPs as Former US
Secretary-General Kuffi Annan, Former US Vice-President Al Gore and President of
Liberia Eileen Johnson Serlef
HH Sheikha Mozah was handed this Prize in a ceremony attended by a number of
Arab and International personages, held in London on Monday evening October
15th2007.
