Supreme Council For Family Affairs Issues On A Cd
The First Standardized Guide To Disability, Special
Education And Rehabilitation Terminology |
|

| |
SCFA, in collaboration with the Executive Office of Gulf Cooperative Council's
Labor and Social Affairs Ministers Board and the Arab League, issued on a CD the
first guide to disability, special education and rehabilitation terminology. The
Guide contains about 1300 terms distributed over 12 sections, each inculding the
entire terms that are mutually associated according to many standards, such as
totality, linguistic and scientific conciseness, updatedness and clarity. It
suffices to say that the Guide displays each term as a standardized entry,
followed by a precise scientific definition, beside a brief explanation about
its usages and functional meanings. Against each scientifically and technically
adopted term in Arabic, there is its equivalent in English to achieve more
clarity and accessibility. The Guide could be easily downloaded, and it will
soon be made available locally and externally. The importance of the Guide lies
in its being the first project in the Arab world that seeks to make available a
standardized electronic dictionary on disability, special education and
rehabilitation terminology, in order to meet actual and growing needs among the
sectors working on disability and with disabled persons, so that it would be a
comprehensive scientific guide to be adopted in the area of care of disabled
persons and their rehabilitation, and to remove the ambiguity that prevails in
some of the terminology in the Arabic vocabulary concerning special education
and rehabilitation, and rectify the errors in some of them, and finally to
contribute to developing a common scientific technical language the facilitates
communication and special education. This achievement falls within SCFA's care
for disabled persons and those who work in this area through holding programs
and activities and producing electronic publications and issuances to
disseminate the concept of awareness and education concerning the different
types of disability and define all the standardized terms in the disability area
and fulfill the policies of including persons with disability in the community
