Launching of the Social Rehabilitation Center (SRC)

 
 


In accordance with the decision of Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), a centre for rehabilitation of people with social aberrations who have lost the ability to adapt to society has been established.
The Social Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) is expected to enhance society's values, strengthen family ties and solve disputes, as stated in Article No. 22 of the Qatari Constitution which states the government should protect youngsters against physical, mental and spiritual neglect.
The SRC has also been set up in accordance with Law No. 21 regarding private establishments for public utility and Decision No. 1 for the year 2005 of the President of the SCFA, H H. Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned.
The centre, which is a private establishment with public utility, targets the category of people with social aberrations who have lost the ability to adapt to society psychologically or socially or educationally or exposed to it. As per Law No. 2 issued by the SCFA President, the SRC has constituted its board of directors. Jameel Mahdi Al Majid is the chairperson.
Other members of the board are Mohamed Hilal Al Khulaifi, deputy chairman, Dr Moza Nasser Al Kaabi, deputy secretary-general, Dr Salim Al Mannai, member, Nahed Al Imadi, member, Abdul Aziz Hassan Al Tamimi, member and Mariam Al Kuwari, member.
The goals of the SRC are to rehabilitate the targeted categories and help them to merge into society besides preventing them from committing social nuisances. It also aims to create a suitable environment to increase the energy and creativity levels of the targeted categories so they can become independent and self-confident.
The SRC will help them achieve their ambitions and break their social isolation, educate society of the dangers of social violations and make them aware of their rights and duties.
The SRC is one of the social projects under the umbrella of the SCFA, which also include Al Shafallah Centre, Family Consulting Centre, Childhood Cultural Centre, Qatar Foundation for Child and Women Protection, Qatar Foundation for Orphan Care (Dhreima) and Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care.
The SRC is reflects the SCFA's vision and mission to enhance the family's role in society and encourage family ties, study juvenile delinquency and suggest suitable solutions for it in coordination with concerned bodies working in related fields and provide care and support for the families with problematic individuals.
To achieve its goals the SRC will introduce a number of plans and programs to provide medical, social, psychological and legal consultations for the targeted categories. It will work closely with ministries, government bodies and public and civil society establishments inside and outside Qatar.
The SRC will publish booklets, publications and guidebooks, conduct field visits for the targeted categories beside studies and research by local and foreign experts on reasons behind social evils and how to eliminate them.
The SRC has selected a flame as its logo symbolizing a guiding light and renewable energy.

The SRC has appointed an executive director with global experiences in the field of rehabilitation. He will start his duties soon. An agreement also has been inked with an expert from the Italian center to conduct a strategy aims to count people with social aberrations in Qatar through a comprehensive study based on accurate statistics.

The first batch of the targeted categories will join the center by March 2008 to get the assist and counseling.
