A Round-table On Legislations Of Protection Against Domestic Violence; At Conclusion Of Marking International Day Of Judiciary, November 25th

 
 



Supreme Council for Family Affairs organized on Monday November 26th 2007 a round-table titled " Legislations of Protection Against Domestic Violence" to mark International Day of Judiciary which coincides annually on November 25th .The Round-table was attend by HE SCFA Secretary-General Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Khalifa and large number of specialists and concerned persons

Participating in this Round-table were an elite of local personages in the law area that included HE Judge Abdullah Mahmood Al-Omar, Primary Court Chief, Dr Hassan Al-Sayed, Law Faculty Dean, University of Qatar, besides Ms Ferida Al-Obeidly, Managing Director of Qatari Foundation for Protecting Child and Woman and Advocate Fawzia Al-Obeidly

Likewise, the Round-table hosted Gulf personages: from Bahrain, HE Dr Abdul-Latif Ahmed Al-Sheikh Mohammed Saleh, Bahraini Legislative Council Member, from Kuwait Advocate Selma Al-Ajmi, The Round-table was moderated by Dr Ilham Badr Al-Sada

Speakers tackled current legislations and laws related to the issue of women's protection against violence in particular and the family in general, besides seeking methods of awareness about the importance of creating a holistic legal framework for addressing the issues of violence within the family and shedding light on the shortcomings in the related laws, such as the Penal and Family Law as well as the penal procedures when addressing family cases

At the conclusion of the Round-table Dr Khalid Said Al-Naqbi, Abu Dhabi Police Social Support Director presented SCFA with a souvenir which HE SCFA Secretary-General received and another souvenir to Ms Noor Al-Maliky, Woman Department Managing-Director in SCFA

This Round-table comes within SCFA's diligent endeavor to upgrading woman and caring for her and protecting her against the violence phenomenon , besides the efforts exerted currently by SCFA through its support of passing a number of laws and legislations which aim at improving and enhancing woman's legal and social status, such as the issuance of the Family Law 2006. SCFA also supports the preparation of a law project of establishing family courts
