Men & Women in the State of Qatar; A Statistical profile

The Supreme Council for Family Affairs and the Statistics Authority (2008)

The Beijing Platform for Action of the Fourth World Conference on Women invited the states member of the United Nations to work on developing statistical information and indicators relating to women and men, and use them as a tool for setting forth policies and programs aiming at empowering women and place them side by side with men in the heart of their development process.

The national interest in providing statistical information about women and men comes in line with State's aspiration of involving women in the national development process, participating in a decision-making level and strengthen their status in society.
In this context, the Supreme Council in cooperation with the Statistics Authority (the prime data provider) prepares a mechanism for promoting Women's role, which is the Gender Report "Report on Men and Women" for the third time in a row, for the years 2004, 2006 and 2008.  The report aims at:
1. Increasing the awareness about women status the interrelationship with men.
2. Identifying the extent of the disparity between women and men in social, health, educational, economic and political fields.
3. Finding objective criteria for assessing the progress attained in gender parity and providing equal opportunities for women and men.
4.  Emphasizing the need to adopt policy reforms and carryout more data collection, analysis and publication  about women and men's role in the society.
